Hot Run

We had a great run last night to South Philly Tap Room. About 25 runners ran 5.25 miles in high humidity from Fishtown through the streets of South Philly. Thanks to owner John Longacre for providing plenty of cold water, great beer, and excellent food. Thank you SPTR.

Thank You Rupesh & Seema

Last Thursday's run to the National for Indian food was a huge success. Thank you to our host Rupesh and Seema for cooking and providing the delicious meal. Special thanks to Mike and Donna for assisting with the logistics. Our feast included Butter Chicken, Chickpeas in Makhani Sauce, Yogurt Raita, and Cardamom Rice. Thanks again!! We all enjoyed it.

Let me know if you are brave enough to host the Fishtown Beer Runners in your home!!

Indian Food Night

Rupesh Patel and his wife Seema have graciously invited us to their place for home cooked Indian food. The run will end at 130 N. 2nd Street (The National). Our feast will take place outside in the courtyard. Check out the menu: Butter Chicken, Chickpeas in Makhani Sauce, Yogurt Raita, and Cardamom Rice. He'll make sure the dishes are not too hot. Rupesh and Seema are providing the food, you should bring what you want to drink. I’ll supply water and a case of PBC. If you bring me your beverages, I will bring them over on Wednesday evening. Rupesh said he’ll make enough to feed an army, but shoot me an e-mail if you plan to come.

Wikipedia on Butter Chicken:

Preparation is started by marinating a chicken overnight in a yogurt and spice mixture usually including garam masala, ginger, lemon, pepper, coriander, cumin, turmeric, chilli, methi and especially garlic. The chicken is then grilled or roasted.

Makhani sauce is made from butter, tomatoes, almonds and various spices, often including cumin, cloves, cinnamon, coriander, pepper, fenugreek and sometimes cream. Once the sauce is prepared, the marinated and grilled chicken is chopped and added to it.

Lucky 13

Hello, official cartographer here. Perhaps you were thinking, I want to come run with the Beer Runners, but where is that Lucky 13 place they're running to this Thursday anyway? Well, your thoughts have been answered...

Note that I mapped a route that has us taking a loop around verdant Penn Treaty Park, and then running along the water at Penn's Landing. If you don't do either of those, that might shave half a mile or more off the distance. Should be a scenic run, with a short tour of South Philly to boot. Hope to see you all there!

Broad Street Run

Congrats to all the Fishtown Beer Runners who completed the Broad Street Run. Everyone did a great job. We proved that you don't have to be a stuffy running club to get good results. Over the past year and a half FBR has inspired new runners to take on a challenge in an enjoyable way while building new friendships. It is amazing to see people progress from a one mile run to Johnny Brenda's to completing the Broad Street!

Some of our runners put up some very impressive numbers. Our very own Andrew Brehm and Peter Roland kick some serious butt. Andy ran a 6:43 pace finishing 553 overall at 1:06.49. Peter ran a 6:45 mile pace finishing 605 at 1:07.15! Everyone else I talked to reached or surpassed their own personal goals. Oh and taking cabs to the starting line rocked....great idea Samantha!

Come out and join us as we have room for runners of all abilities from first time runners to elite runners, plus we are a lot of fun to drink a beer and with!

Thursday, April 30th run has been redirected form Cavanaugh’s to Oscars. Same start time and location.

2. Broad Street Run

If any one wants to head down together, meet at 2346 E. Susquehanna at 7:00 AM. It sure would be nice if everyone wore their FBR t-shirts, ya know for publicity’s sake

Pre-Run - I'm headed over to the Expo Friday afternoon around 4:00. Also, any ideas for a carb-loading dinner on Saturday night? I had the party last year...hint, hint, hint.

Post Run - After the run everyone is invited to Johanna Roebas house for a pot-luck bbq. Please let her know what you'd like to bring, you can make arrangements for Saturday drop offs. Email her to RSVP and for directions johroe@gmail.com

Time: 1:00 ish.

3. Shad Run 5K

Thanks for everyone who volunteered or ran the Shad Run 5K. The organizers of the overall festival were very impressed with the way the Fishtown Beer Runners organized and pulled off the run.

4. Run Destinations
Thanks for your run suggestions. Keep them coming.

Shad Run 5K A Success

Thank you to all the volunteers and runners for making the first Shad Run 5K a success. We had 73 runners, no injuries (although runner #666 became nauseous after eating a gel pack on an empty stomach! Don't worry I won't mention your name Ronchito.) Oh and we raised some money for Penn Treaty Park. Click here for the official race results. Congratulations to all the winners and participants on such a hot day. E-mail me if you have any suggestions for next year, fishtownbeerrunners@gmail.com

Shad Run 5K

Well tomorrow is the Shad Run 5K sponsored by us, the Fishtown Beer Runners. We have 50 pre-registered runners and expect 30-40 more to register the day of. No bad for a first year event. We have already broken even and have raised some money for Penn Treaty Park.

Philadelphia Brewing Company is donating one beer per runner after the race! So it really is going to be an official beer run. Come on out to the Festival and cheer on the runners.

New run map - 2nd Street Annie's

We had an amazing crowd (I think the count was 21?) for the run to 2nd Street Annie's tonight. While some of the crew headed all the way down Delaware to Washington, I turned around at South... that was far enough. Who knew that Penns Landing is so calm at 7:30 on a Thursday? Very peaceful. As for the bar, what a neat addition to the area. Good beer, lots of space, and a double piano (?!).

I've been slacking on my job as cartographer, so here is the first new run map in a while:

You can find additional run maps on the right side of the page, down a little ways.
